Pandemic Masks with non woven lining adding a metal nose piece and a button band

Pandemic Masks

I have noticed many people making masks and feel these extra things will make them more comfortable

Button Band these were made with double fold 
quilt binding but ribbon or the 
handles of the shopping bag 

I used dental floss to sew on the buttons 
and to sew on the elastic bands 

I am using non woven reusable shopping bags as interfacing for these masks because I didn't have any interfacing on hand.

 I am taking spiral binder metal cutting it bending the ends in so it isn't sharp then creating a casing for it like I would for boning

I am sewing the casing to the inside out mask in the nose position

 

Then I turn the mask right side out.

I then sew along the edges to make the mask more crisp

I choose to ass double fold quilt binding this can also work as a pocket if you want to string you masks. I didnt do this on the Starry Night Fabric mask.

Because I was having problems finding elastic I had bought hair bands and cut them to use 

You can use regular hair ties either way when you cut them tie a knot at the end

Finished Fencing Helm

My fencing helm with Chaperon all though I started out with a hood that is rolled for the Chaperon I altered it later to get it to look better. The reason I needed to alter it was because I didn't make the Liripipe on the hood as long as it needed to be to hang out after the hood was rolled. I sewed it to the Mask. My husband thought I should wire it but I would rather the thread brake then the fabric, so I did not.

Getting Garb made for war and Fencing

My freshly painted mask

A fencing doublet I made for My DH the sleeves are attached

The sleeves are done in the Leine style of his Irish persona. 

I added an elastic draw strings to the sleeves to gather the wrist and there is a hoop that slips over his thumb that keep the sleeve firmly in his glove. I gathered the sleeves before sewing on the trim then I sewed them into the tube that they are. I then added a reinforced piece fabric to the under arm as per armor requirements. then I gathered the sleeve enough to fit the arm to the doublet.I think it needs some gold piping. But all in all it looks good and he is happy with it.

Needle books

I am working of needle books this week here are two I have made the Blue one has purple for the inside needle page, and the red one has Black. I am making pins to got with them.

Stars and Constellations

Stars and Constellations, I am working on this piece and I just don't know what do make it into. The Fabric is a stretch denim. I love this material, I would love pants made out of it and it is glittery.  I put sequins with a bead in the center for the main stars in the constellation, and just made star with embroidery thread for the two other stars not quite in it. This is the Seven sisters constellation there are 8 stars in it because Sterope is made up of two stars. the other two stars are the Parents of the Seven sisters. It feels just a little folksy to me. I am torn as to whether I should make a bag out of it or cut the fabric and turn it over and finish it off in the hoop as a wall hanging.

Snowman Hat

 I decided to make snow man kits with a top hat and scarf button eyes and a string of wooden beads for a mouth. this is the hat pattern. it did involve Pi to get the circumstance so I could figure out how long to make the rectangle .  It looks like two eyes and one uni brow looking at you in this photo. Then here is our test snow person trying on the hat and scarf. I gave her two scarves in case she didn't want to give one up to a snowman.

Gnome Project bag.

 For a swap I am doing for needle cases I went a little further. She had a Elizabethan Project bag on her wist so I took that concept and made it a little cutesy. I used duck cloth for the bag, and felt for the needle holder. I am debating adding lamp worked pins just because I can. If I do they will probably have mushroom tops.

Sewing Kit

 I made this for a swap. Ir is completely made with stuff I already owned. I use a linen Rayon Blend of the fabrics I beaded the thread on the cover. I just need a little pair of scissors for it to be complete. (I have them I just have to find them. Did you notice I made it open backwards? This was not on purpose. Welcome to my world of Dyslexia. Oh well it is nice despite that. and it adds a little story about the maker.

Felt Skull Ornements

These Skulls are ornaments for a swap. I made these for a wist swap, on crafters.
We each make 5 points worth of things from each others wist list or things inspired by their wist list.  this is a 2 to 3 point project. Only the eyes are machined. They are hand embroidered and hand edged with a blanket stitch. Here is the inspiration, you have to scroll down to the photo of them

This is a wet bag. Not that it is wet mind you.
It is for wet dish towels and dish rags It is lined with more of that Air mattress that you have seen me use here before.  I make dish clothes and so when they need washing I don't have them sitting some wear getting moldy. then when I go down stairs to wash I just grab them all at once. We pull the wash clothes from the bath room and put them in here too.

Wristlet

This is a wristlet I made. I used the design of the fabric as the pattern for the beading. It is a day of the dead fabric. I made it for a 44 cent swap. I had the Fabric left over from another project and I always have beads and ribbon on had. I used Velcro for the closer.

A needle Book for a Dr Who fan

I made this to go in a Basket for a Dr Who fan. She is moving and so I am making stuff for her as a going away gift.

Peanut Butter Jelly time

I made some Pillows for a swap partner. I already had the stuffing and Muslin. They are one sided but I think they are cute. I almost put faces on them

Odd Holiday for June Swap

For a swap where you pick your favorite odd holidays I made this bracelet for sewing machine appreciation day. I used Leather for the closer because my partner was alergic to cerain meadals and I thought this was safe east but it turned out that she LOVED IT because it was so arty.
I also made a handy bag to keep things in with an eagle on it for Eagle day.

Things I made ar Gulf Wars-3

A leather flask. This is really cool it took days to make. it is sealed inside and out with wax. The cool part about that is it is easy to fix if the seal is compromised. the trick is using vegetable tanned hides. I carved a strawberry on it as a makers mark. I love this I want to make more but that will have to wait for more planning. It will end up being a class I teach at some point in the future. BTW bottles like this sold for $45 The class was $7. it was sewed with linen waxed thread, using a saddle stitch.

Lining a snood. I do some piece work once in a great while for Lady Mac Snood. She has me line snoods for special orders for her. It gets me a ticket or to to a ren fair now and again. I do 2 to 4 a year for her.

A Fair Swap

Here are two of the Items I made for a swap that is centered around Ren Faires and such.
The pin is called a Fibula and I used store bought beads that I had in my bead box and a charm I have ad laying around for so long I can't remember(12 or more years) . It reminded me of the Cheshire Cat and my Partner likes Alice in Wonderland so I thought she might like it. The pouch is made of red Leather suede and the Dragon on it is a rubber medallion I got on clearance after Halloween one year for $.50 The leather wasn't that expensive either and yes I had it on hand too. I am trying to use up lots of the stuff I have here so I have more room to organism things. I am also making her a shirt and that will be the swap. Hope she like it. I do have one more of the dragon medallions if I want to make another one.
